(This is probably written on impulse)
So I accepted a job offer, after a lot of consideration and weighing of pros and cons of the various options available. Not knowing exactly how the process worked, I chose to keep quiet about it until I was sure that everything was confirmed.
But, my boss found out through the HR and proceeded to scold me for not telling him about it. Despite the fact that I told him I had offers (note the plural) and wanted to know more about the transfer he was doing for me, he insisted that I did not say "I did not reject". During the session, he ranted about how I was being irresponsible over my work. And that while he was being open about my transfer, I was not respecting him as a boss to tell him. Mind you, the actual date of transfer is 5 weeks from now (hence no need to submit 1 months' notice yet).
CW and I have both spoken to the transferring department and explained the situation to her. The main issue highlighted to her was that the transfer was not stable, and that even if I were to go over, having to work closely with my original team (after seeing how my boss treats the staff from that side) was not necessarily a good thing.
She then said that it was kind of expected that I would do as such, as my boss has been giving them a hard time over the transfer, insisting for a late date despite them warning him that I might move on. Nonetheless, I told her that I did not want to burn bridges, as I really did want to go over, but was apprehensive over what stunts my side would pull in the meantime.
After that tirade, I'm just upset that my 5 years' of hard work here has boiled down to this unpleasant ending. It is not as though I have shortchanged the company on my work. In fact I feel that I have gone beyond what was required to work hard to meet my boss' expectations. Apparently one of his expectations is to be completely open with him on my job issues, on a one-way basis. I'm not sure what my next step should be, as I do not wish to be vindictive and throw a letter now just to spite him. He did ask me to ask for an extension on my leaving date. However, after the whole ding-dong, and long liaison with the new company, I do not wish to jeopardise my new working relationship with them.
Sadly, I think my happy times in this company will be overshadowed by what my boss just did (and the losing of friendships with some colleagues I actually trusted and thought to be friends). Upsetting but it is pushing me even more to look forward to a new beginning in a new team and an ideal job scope.
